What happens

In the border town of El Corso, a fugitive breaks into a woman's home, stabs and beats her, then flees with her purse. Texas Rangers Jace Pearson and Clay Morgan are called to investigate. They question the injured Maria Santos in an ambulance to get a description of the attacker before she's taken to the hospital.

El Corso, a southwest Texas town near the Mexican border, in August 1940. The investigation begins at Maria Santos's home and continues in an ambulance heading to the hospital.
