What happens

In September 1945, Igor Gouzenko, a cipher clerk at the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa, defects and brings Canadian authorities documents revealing a spy ring seeking atomic secrets. Lieutenant Colonel Burt of the Special Branch at Scotland Yard is assigned to identify the agent codenamed Alec and learn how much he knows. Burt's officers watch the physicist Dr. Nunn May, who has recently returned from work in Canada, and when Dr. May misses a planned meeting near the British Museum, Burt visits him at King's College. The episode follows the investigation as the police build their case against the professor.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
