What happens
Samuel Dougal, a man who has lately moved to Mothouse Farm, a secluded house surrounded by a moat, takes lodgings with his companion at Mrs. Wiskinden's guesthouse while repairs are made. The woman travelling with him, Camilla Holland, is not his wife, and she grows increasingly uneasy about his behaviour and the money he takes from her. When a housemaid reports a disturbing incident, Camilla begins to plan her escape. The story is drawn from a Scotland Yard case reported in a London newspaper some fifty years earlier, and it follows the household and the village as local gossip about the missing woman grows. Chief Inspector Scott and his team search the grounds of the farm for the missing woman, and the investigation moves from forgery charges toward a more serious inquiry.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
