What happens
On the Red Horse Ranch, the cowhands are idling one day when Arizona tries to write a letter and asks the others how to spell ventriloquist, since he has sent away for a course. Later, Alabama learns from Dan Higgins that stray cattle on the far side of the B D range appear to carry altered brands from the Red Horse. The men discuss the possibility of rustling and the strained relations with Bradford, who had been turned down over a deal for the ranch. Alabama plans to ride over in the morning to look for himself, and the men agree to keep quiet with Dad Carter until they know more.
