What happens
Philip Marlowe is called to a Los Angeles morgue by Lieutenant Matthews, who wants him to identify a young blonde woman struck by a car the night before. Marlowe does not know her, but he learns she was Vera Hamlin, who had recently worked for a man named Dave Brasso and had been seeing him. A newspaper runs a sensational story about a witness to her death, and Marlowe follows the leads to a roadside bar called Moon's Point. The Adventures of Philip Marlowe aired on CBS in 1949, with Gerald Mohr in the title role. The episode's cast also includes Van Heflin and Jeff Corey, with William Conrad appearing in the series' lineup of supporting players.

Characters: Philip Marlowe, Lieutenant Matthews, Vera Hamlin, Dave Brasso, Stipple, Moon, Rocco, Francis Hamlin
Listen for: The phone call from Lieutenant Matthews at the start, and the newspaper story about the eyewitness
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
