What happens

Private detective Philip Marlowe is hired by a man named Shelley to look into his sister Marion's involvement with a San Francisco broker named Lou Horn. When Marlowe visits Shelley's home, he discovers a dead body behind the couch with no identification. After reporting the body to police, Marlowe pursues a lead about a mysterious orange dog of Faux, a supposedly non-existent Chinese artifact said to be worth twenty thousand dollars, which may hold the key to the case.

Los Angeles, including Marlowe's office, Shelley's home on Los Fearless, and a curio shop in Chinatown owned by James Tang.

Characters: Philip Marlowe, Shelley, Marion, Lou Horn, Lieutenant Borret, James Tang

Listen for: Marlowe's investigation into the orange dog of Faux and its connection to Marion and the murder; the mysterious long-haired man fleeing in a green coupe; the revelation that the supposedly worthless artifact is worth a fortune.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
