What happens

Philip Marlowe, posing as a sports writer from Detroit, arrives at Clovea Lake training camp in the Malibu mountains to help his friend Babe Durney protect young fighter Danny Eagle. Lance, the camp's manager, has fired Danny after a confrontation over Lance's wife Myra, and now threatens to have his muscle man rough up the kid. Marlowe must gain Lance's trust while keeping Danny safe from harm.

Clovea Lake training camp, a converted summer hotel in the Malibu mountains about 20 miles outside the film colony, featuring boxing rings, cabins, and a lake a hundred feet below a cliff's edge.

Characters: Philip Marlowe, Babe Durney, Danny Eagle, Raleigh Lance, Myra Lance, Weatherwax, Kelly

Listen for: Marlowe's investigation into Lance's operations and his growing awareness of the tensions between Lance, his wife Myra, and the fighters at the camp; the revelation that Marlowe is a private detective despite his cover story.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
