What happens
Phil Harris learns that his sponsor has hired Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis to substitute for him on the radio program, and he flies back from San Francisco to protect his place on the show. Phil and Alice Faye Harris discuss the situation at home, and Phil grows increasingly anxious about the two comedians. Phil tries to show off his singing and comic talents while worrying that the guests will overshadow him. The episode is part of the Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show on NBC, first broadcast on March 29, 1953, with Phil Harris and Alice Faye starring.
The Harrises' home and the NBC studio, where the radio program is being rehearsed and broadcast.
Characters: Phil Harris, Alice Faye, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Elliott Lewis, Gale Gordon
Listen for: Phil's anxiety about being upstaged by Martin and Lewis, and the rehearsal scene where the writers rework the guests' lines.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
