What happens

Phil Harris and Alice Faye's household ventures into a home project when Phil decides to assemble a television set himself from a mail-order kit. Neighbor Elliott Lewis, called Curly, helps him install a tall antenna on the roof, and the two men spend a hectic day at the post office collecting the crate of parts. Back at the house, the assembly grows increasingly chaotic, with misread instructions, mismatched fittings and Phil's stubborn confidence in his own skills. Gale Gordon appears as the store keeper's cousin, Giuseppe, is brought up in conversation. The episode is from The Phil Harris radio series, originally broadcast on NBC on February 5, 1954, with Phil Harris and Alice Faye in the leading roles.

Listen for: Phil's repeated claims that he knows exactly what he is doing as the television set takes shape

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
