What happens
Miss Brooks, an English teacher at Madison High Summer School, prepares a final exam while her landlady Mrs. Davis and the principal, Mr. Conklin, discuss a silver loving cup awarded to the summer student who shows the best mastery of English. Mr. Conklin asks Miss Brooks to approve a new inscription for the cup, and Walter Denton and Harriet Compton bring news of a barbecue party that depends on Stretch Snodgrass winning the award. Miss Brooks tries to help Stretch prepare for the test, which proves difficult.
