What happens
Connie Brooks, an English teacher at Madison High School, hopes to win the new head of the English department post, which carries a raise. Her landlady, Mrs. Davis, is sympathetic to her money troubles as the morning goes wrong. Her interview with Mr. Stone of the Board of Education is set for nine, but her ride is delayed, and her phone is constantly tied up on a party line shared with the chatty Gribbles and Bertha. Our Miss Brooks, a CBS Radio comedy, aired on November 20, 1949, starring Eve Arden, with Gale Gordon, Jeff Chandler and Richard Crenna.
Mrs. Davis's home and Madison High School, in a town with a shared telephone party line.
Characters: Connie Brooks, Mrs. Davis, Harriet Conklin, Mr. Conklin, Walter Denton, Mr. Boynton, Mr. Gribble, Grace Gribble
Listen for: Connie's repeated attempts to make a phone call on the party line, and the Gribbles' chatter with Bertha.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
