What happens
Irma Peterson breaks off with her long-time boyfriend Al, whom she considers lazy, and takes up with Melvin Baxter, a man she has just met. Her roommate Jane Stacy listens to her worries and offers advice as Irma prepares for her date with Melvin. Irma's mix of eagerness and confusion leads to a series of awkward moments, including a dinner at home and a visit to the Gypsy Tearoom where Professor Kropotkin and Mrs. O'Reilly weigh in on her romantic choices. Al, meanwhile, reacts badly to the breakup. My Friend Irma was a CBS Radio comedy, and this episode aired on December 27, 1948, starring Marie Wilson and Cathy Lewis.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
