What happens
Irma Peterson, a secretary, has just won a ten-dollar raise from her employer, Mr. Clyde, and she and her roommate Jane Stacy celebrate by ordering a clothes dryer. Mr. Clyde then asks Irma to go out that evening with his nephew Hector, but Irma's boyfriend Al is suspicious and Irma wants to avoid trouble. The two women improvise a series of excuses and substitutions to keep Irma out of the date. This is the My Friend Irma radio comedy, first broadcast on CBS Radio on January 27, 1953, starring Marie Wilson and Cathy Lewis.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
