What happens

Kent Thurston, a Bureau agent known as X, travels to Algeria after his friend Dr. Webb sends him a cryptic message about a buried object from a Roman ruin. On arriving at the desert camp near the ruins of Timbak, Thurston finds the tents torn down and Dr. Webb dead, killed with a bronze knife. Thurston's inquiry leads him to Nadia, where he looks for a dancer named Dalia and meets Pagon, a self-described captain who follows him about. The episode is part of The Man Called X, a radio series with Herbert Marshall in the title role, and it was first broadcast on 1947-11-09.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
