What happens

Ken Thurston, the man called X, investigates the disappearance of a shipment of streptomycin meant for a hospital in Athens. A grieving mother named Mrs. Masters came to the bureau after her son died without receiving the medicine she had paid for, and Ken's inquiry takes him from the Greek mercantile company to a steamer bound for the island of Xenophon. Along the way he meets a doctor at the hospital, a mysterious passenger, and several men with their own interests in the drug.
