What happens

Agent X arrives on Turtle Island, a remote spot off the coast of Maine, seeking rest after a difficult assignment. He soon meets the island's quiet residents, including Miss Julie Hancock, her sister Mary, and their nieces, while a hostile local man named Mr. Candy seems determined to drive him away. A fire breaks out and a series of strange incidents follows, raising questions about who on the island can be trusted. The Man Called X stars Herbert Marshall and aired on July 30, 1946.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
