What happens

Ken Thurston is called in after Bill Pringle, an inspector for the food commission, dies in a fall from a hotel window in Montevideo. A million-dollar order of canned beef from the Gallivan Export Packing Company has been condemned as spoiled, and the commission's report was signed by an inspector whose name Thurston recognizes. Thurston travels to Uruguay to look into the shipment. Herbert Marshall stars as Thurston in The Man Called X, a radio mystery series sponsored by Frigidaire, broadcast on CBS on December 7, 1947.

Montevideo, Uruguay, and New York

Characters: Ken Thurston, Bill Pringle, Gallivan, Pegon, Lieutenant Rubino, Pedro Zapato, Valtin, Ted Brodapato

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
