What happens

Ken Thurston, a shrewd investigator known as the man called X, is hired to trace four Rembrandt paintings that have been replaced by clever copies at the Haven Gallery in New York. The paintings fund the Haven Exchange scholarships, so the fakes threaten the program. Thurston follows the trail to a small island in the Bay of Rio de Janeiro, where the former gallery curator John Tormy now lives with his wife Carmen. There he finds a guest, the artist Oscar Dole, dead of apparent heart failure, and both he and the household receive a mysterious warning. The series, The Man Called X, aired on June 26, 1947, with Herbert Marshall as Ken Thurston.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
