What happens

Ken Thurston, a reporter working for a news service, learns that Dr. Franz Sally, a convicted Nazi war criminal and former developer of nerve gas, has escaped from a military hospital. Sally swore years earlier to kill the man who seized his gas, and that man is now chairing a NATO meeting in Lisbon. When a close aide to the chairman dies in a way that resembles nerve gas poisoning, Thurston and Colonel Stoer search the university where the meeting will be held. Their search turns up coded symbols on a basement wall pointing to ten o'clock, leaving them little time to stop the attack. The Man Called X is a radio drama series, and this episode was broadcast on March 11, 1952, starring Herbert Marshall.

Lisbon, Portugal, at the time of a NATO defense meeting held at the University of Lisbon

Characters: Ken Thurston, Colonel Stoer, Dr. Franz Sally, Julio Parra, Elsa Heller, Pegan Zelchmitt, Mendoza, Senor Gerson

Listen for: The coded symbols and the ten o'clock deadline scrawled in the basement, and the elevator and dumb waiter sequence as Thurston races to find the gas before the meeting begins.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
