What happens

Ken Thurston, the man called X, looks into the disappearance of the freighter Balero, which was insured for half a million dollars. When his insurance friend Dick Finley is murdered, Thurston travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to find the ship's owner, John Messler, whom few have seen in years. There he meets Messler's niece Lorena and Carl Hertzberg, who manages the plantation. Thurston senses danger as he pursues the case through the local bars, the plantation lands and a guarded warehouse. Herbert Marshall stars in the Frigidaire-sponsored series The Man Called X, and this episode first aired on April 24, 1947.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
