What happens

Ken Thurston, a investigator, is sent to Bombay to look into a wave of grain robberies that has left people starving while stolen food is sold openly on the black market. Inspector Rimi of the Bombay police explains the problem and suggests that Thurston try the Cosmo Club, a meeting place for notorious figures. There Thurston meets the club's hostess, Karma, and a black market operator named Blake Kramer, who agrees to talk business. Soon after, Kramer is found murdered, and Thurston finds himself with few allies and an uncertain trail. The series The Man Called X was broadcast on NBC on June 8, 1951, starring Herbert Marshall in the title role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
