What happens
Ken Thurston, a man called X, travels to Monterey, Mexico, after a call from Peggon, who has been jailed there. Mexican authorities have been trying to stop luxury goods being smuggled across the border from the United States, and the smugglers are draining the dollars the government needs for essential imports. Thurston and Peggon follow leads through a cafe, a ranch and a cattle business, while the body of a man named Carlos is found, shot in the back. Inspector Martinez is also involved in the investigation. This episode of The Man Called X aired on August 29, 1948.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
