What happens

Lum and Abner, the old hill-country characters, find Pine Ridge deep in a contest for political control of the village. Lum wants the men's candidate for mayor to win, so he sets about turning the two women candidates against each other. He calls each of them with insulting remarks he claims the other has made, hoping the feud will split their supporters. The episode is from the Lum and Abner series, first aired on February 28, 1940, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle as the leading performers. Lum and Abner gather at the Jot 'Em Down store to discuss the matter, and the women's quarrels grow louder across the village.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
