What happens

Lum and Abner, the residents of Pine Ridge, go to the polls in a special election that will decide whether the men or the women rule the town. The women's ticket is headed by Melvie Moots and Mamie Seastrunk, with Lum running for mayor, while Abner and his wife Elizabeth compete for chief of police. Lum frets over the outcome at the store with Abner, and the squire brings word of how the count is going. The original broadcast aired on March 1, 1940, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
