What happens
Lum and Abner live in the hill-country town of Pine Ridge, where women have just won every town office in an election. Squire Skimp is upset at the outcome and complains that the town's name has been mocked in the newspapers. Abner's wife Lizabeth, now the new police chief, is seen on the street wearing a badge and two revolvers, which Abner finds embarrassing. Meanwhile the town's men worry about fire protection and insurance, and rumours spread that other women are taking over local jobs. Late in the broadcast news arrives that three men have robbed a bank in the county seat and may be heading toward Pine Ridge, leaving Lizabeth to face her first test as chief. The Lum and Abner series aired on NBC, Mutual, CBS and ABC, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the lead roles, and this episode was first broadcast on March 4, 1940.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
