What happens

Lum and Abner follow the goings-on in Pine Ridge after Florence Beaumont, a supposedly wealthy widow who answered a marriage proposal from Lum, arrives in town expecting to wed him. Lum, determined not to go through with the marriage, is found soaked and in wet clothes, and the townsfolk gossip about the breach of promise he might face. The story is told in the fifteen-minute radio serial of this old-time comedy series, broadcast on January 26, 1940, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the lead roles. Abner and the other townsfolk discuss Lum's predicament and how to get him out of the engagement.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
