What happens

Lum and Abner, the two Pine Ridge storekeepers from the hill country, find themselves dealing with Widow Beaumont, a wealthy woman who arrived in town with her seven children after Lum's mother, Mrs. Beaumont, answered her advertisement for a husband. Lum is dismayed by the arrangement and tries to persuade Abner to talk the widow into leaving town. Abner agrees to work on it for a fee, and the two begin plotting how to make Lum seem so ridiculous that she will lose interest. The series first aired in 1940 on the networks named in the program's schedule, and Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle are the lead actors. The story is set in the rural community of Pine Ridge.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
