What happens
Lum and Abner, the two neighbors of Pine Ridge, have been trying to find a way to be rid of Mrs. Beaumont and her children, the woman Lum originally invited to Pine Ridge to become his bride. The children have been moved into Lum's house on the doctor's advice because the cold was too hard on them. At Dawson's store, Grandpappy Spears and Abner discuss the matter and agree that Lum should marry the widow and take on her family. They then confront Lum, who objects strongly to her and her children, pointing to the damage the boys have caused. Abner and Grandpappy argue that a family would be good for him. Lum is eventually persuaded to sit down with Mrs. Beaumont for a talk. The 1940 episode is part of the long-running Lum and Abner radio series, first broadcast on January 29, 1940, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
