What happens
Lum and Abner, the proprietors of the Jot 'Em Down store in Pine Ridge, prepare to travel to Kansas City to find Miss Barrington, a wealthy widow they have never met. Lum intends to return a box of diamonds to her, having learned that they were hidden in a secret drawer of a tin box left in their safekeeping by a man calling himself John Devereaux. Abner is worried that Devereaux may return for the box while Lum is away, and the two men discuss how to protect the store and the valuables. Meanwhile Abner teases Lum about his interest in the widow, and the pair argue over his romantic hopes. The episode is part of the long-running radio comedy series Lum and Abner, first broadcast on September 5, 1941, starring Chester Lauck and Norris Goff, with Lurene Tuttle also featured.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
