What happens

Lum Edwards waits anxiously at the bank in Pine Ridge for a reply to the letter he sent to Miss Bangton in Kansas City, enclosing his picture. While he waits, he reads a book on manners and frets over how a wealthy society woman might expect him to behave. His friend Cedric Weehunt listens as Lum talks of marriage, his oil company plans and his dream girl, and the letter that finally arrives brings news that stirs the town. The story is part of the long-running Lum and Abner radio series, first broadcast on September 4, 1941, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
