What happens
Lum and Abner try to modernize their Jot 'Em Down store by studying a book on salesmanship. Abner struggles to grasp the book's ideas, and the two argue over how to classify customers. Their attempts to apply the lessons to Cedric and the stingy Jim Watson lead to confusion, as Abner mixes up the advice meant for different customer types. The episode is set in Pine Ridge and comes from the Lum and Abner series, first broadcast on 1941-10-02 on NBC, Mutual, CBS and ABC, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
