What happens
Squire Kimble confronts Lum Edwards after Lum confesses that his broken leg was a fake, meant to cheat an insurance company out of money. Abner Peabody urges Lum to face the Squire, and Lum pleads that he only wanted to escape a bad situation. The Squire, who represents the company, first threatens to report the fraud, then softens and begins to look for a way out. He proposes that a traveling healer could cure the leg in public, and he contacts an old acquaintance to arrange it. The episode is part of the Lum and Abner series, first broadcast on October 23, 1941, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff, and Lurene Tuttle in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
