What happens
Lum Edwards is jailed in Pine Ridge after entering the Jot-Em-Down Store at midnight, and Town Marshal Uncle Henry Lunsford insists he must stand trial. Abner Peabody visits and explains that Lum, as justice of the peace, can set his own trial date. Lum complains about being asked to weave baskets to keep his mind off crime, and the two discuss the paper Lum signed giving up his half of the store. Lum learns he may be sent to road work and considers escape, but the story is still unresolved when the transcript ends. Lum and Abner is a long-running NBC-era comedy serial from 1942, starring Chester Lauck and Norris Goff, with Lurene Tuttle also in the cast.
Pine Ridge, a small rural community, including its jail and the town's stores.
Characters: Lum Edwards, Abner Peabody, Uncle Henry Lunsford, Grandpa Spears, Squire Skimp, Mousie Grade, Cedric
Listen for: Lum's scheme to set his own bail at an absurdly high figure, and his suspicion that Uncle Henry's unlocked car key is a trap.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
