What happens

Lum is held in the Pine Ridge town jail after town marshal Henry Lumsford refuses to drop charges that Lum tried to break into a store. Uncle Henry runs the jail by a prison handbook, cutting Lum's hair and planning to photograph him for a wall of criminals. Meanwhile Lum tries to raise money for a lawyer by selling his belongings through his friend Cedric, and he learns that the paper he needs as evidence has gone astray. Abner, who is Lum's partner in the store, is drawn into the dispute. The episode is part of the Lum and Abner series, first broadcast on January 23, 1942, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the leading roles.

The town jail in Pine Ridge

Characters: Lum, Abner, Uncle Henry Lumsford, Cedric, Rick, Squire

Listen for: Uncle Henry's haircut and photograph routine in the jail, and the discovery that the missing paper may be hidden in a library book

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
