What happens

Lum and Abner, the two characters from the hill country of Pine Ridge, are the focus of this episode of the Lum and Abner series, first broadcast on January 10, 1940. Lum is in hiding after being accused of running an illegal post office, and he confides his worries to Abner while hiding in the feed room of the store. Lum is anxious about his trouble and talks of starting over. Abner agrees to help him by trying a disguise, shaving off his mustache and beard, and introducing him to Grandpa under another name as Mr. Williams. The episode follows the pair as Abner works to hide Lum's identity while the story of the reward and the detectives unfolds around the store.

Listen for: Abner's plan to introduce Lum to Grandpa under the name Mr. Williams, and whether Grandpa recognizes him

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
