What happens

Lum and Abner are at the store, idly playing checkers when the telephone rings. Sister Simpson calls in a long grocery order, including salmon, coal, matches, soap, rope and a bottle of Alka-Seltzer, and the partners scribble it on an old letter because they have no paper. Their talk drifts to the remedy, its radio sponsors, and the strange claims folks make for it. Lum and Abner are the stars of this radio comedy series, which aired on NBC, Mutual, CBS and ABC, and this episode is a special routine made for Alka-Seltzer. Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle lead the cast. The original air date was August 19, 1941.

Listen for: Sister Simpson's long grocery order, read out and scribbled on an old letter, and the partners' comic talk about Alka-Seltzer's uses.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
