What happens

Lum and Abner, the proprietors of the Jot 'Em Down store in Pine Ridge, have a bottle of pills found in the car of the late Professor Hinkle Dorff, which they believe may be a formula for synthetic gasoline. They are eager to find out what it is for and to sell it, because they must raise $160 within thirty days. Lum tries the mixture in the car, and their efforts to start it prove difficult. Abner and Lum also argue about words and weighing things on scales, and Cedric is brought in to help with the car. This episode is from the Lum and Abner radio series, first aired on June 26, 1941, on NBC, Mutual, CBS and ABC, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
