What happens
Lum and Abner discover a room of chemicals in the laboratory of the late Professor Hinkle-Dorf, a property they have recently acquired in Jot 'Em Down. Abner tries a mixture from one of the professor's bottles and is caught in an explosion in the kitchen, leaving him with singed eyebrows and mustache. The townsfolk at Grandpa Spurgeon's store gather to discuss the incident, and Abner, now feeling like a hero, insists he has invented something. Lum and Abner then debate what it means to invent, with Abner's theories about gravity and falling apples tumbling into nonsense. The episode is a comedy of small-town talk and misunderstanding.
Jot 'Em Down, a small rural community; Lum and Abner's new property and the old professor's laboratory; the Jot 'Em Down store and the barbershop.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
