What happens
Lum and Abner, the two proprietors of the Jot 'Em Down Store in Pine Ridge, learn that jewels were left in a box at the bank and are now missing. The bank has been closed for several days, and rumors spread that the bank has failed. Lum and Abner admit they have been hiding out after finding diamonds in a box left by a man named Devlin, which they planned to return to a Miss Barnes. Their worry grows as they fear Devlin will accuse them of theft. A stranger from New York then arrives in town, and the two men become suspicious of him. This is the Lum and Abner radio series, first broadcast on September 11, 1941, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
