What happens

Lum and Abner, the storekeepers of Pine Ridge, watch as the town competes for a $10,000 prize offered by Dogenes Smith for its most model citizen. Lum has been handing out pamphlets on right living, but he complains of blisters and embarrassment. Dogenes, who prints his pamphlets late at night in the feed room, summons Lum for a private meeting, and Lum returns from it proudly announcing a promotion to circulation manager. Cedric and Granny join the gossip, and Lum and Abner trade boasts about secret passwords and deputy badges. The Lum and Abner radio series aired on NBC, Mutual, CBS and ABC, and its lead actors were Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
