What happens
Lum and Abner, the storekeepers of Pine Ridge, learn that the $1,200 check Squire Skimp gave to their friend Gregory W.W. Dobbs may be worthless, since Dobbs is not a real builder. Meanwhile Squire Skimp arrives at the store eager to get another check for building materials, claiming the lumber is already ordered. The partners discuss how to recover their money, and Squire, who has a plan for the apartment project, makes a surprising proposal. The episode is from the Lum and Abner radio series, originally broadcast on May 5, 1942, starring Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
