What happens

Lum, Abner, and Cedric sort through townsfolk suggestions for spending Arngey Smith's $10,000 gift to Pine Ridge. A government communique about automobile pooling catches Cedric's attention, and he misreads it at first, thinking it means driving cars into a pond. Lum explains that the idea is for neighbors to share rides and save gasoline and tires for the war effort. The men discuss how Pine Ridge contributes to the war through enlistments, war bonds, scrap drives, and farm food. Lum and Abner decide to announce the plan to the whole community, and the episode ends with Cedric taking several of Walt Bates's workers along on a trip to the county seat.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
