What happens

Lum Edwards tries to win back his place in the store from Abner Peabody, who holds the paper giving him sole ownership. Lum has been pretending to be hungry and has been making a joke of a stunt involving an orphan's home. Meanwhile, Grandpa Spears helps Abner stock shelves and keeps reading labels aloud. Lum then meets a man from the Daniel W. Frisbee publishing company, who sells him a badge and a claim to exclusive rights to sell the Midwest Farm and Needlework Weekly in Polk County. Lum believes he will earn a pony and a free college scholarship through magazine sales, and he is quickly drawn into the offer.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
