What happens

Lum Edwards is preparing for the premiere of the film Lum and Abner's picture, The Bashful Bachelor, at the Pine Ridge schoolhouse on Friday night. Lum phones around town appointing committees for decorating, ticket sales and refreshments, while his partner Abner Peabody reacts with growing exasperation. Lum assigns Abner the job of ticket taker, and Cedric sells autograph slips to townsfolk. Money for the event is a concern, and the preparations grow more elaborate with each phone call. Lum and Abner is a long-running radio comedy, first broadcast in 1942 on a network hookup, starring Chester Lauck and Norris Goff, with Lurene Tuttle in the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
