What happens
Lum and Abner set up a free public library in the Jot-Em-Down Store in Pine Ridge, partly to keep the new schoolteacher, Miss Fredericks, from studying at the county seat library. Abner collects old books, magazines and newspapers around town, and Lum sorts them with him while Abner keeps reading the newspapers instead of shelving. Cedric arrives with a stack of books of his own, and the two men begin to notice some odd details about where the books are coming from. This is an episode of the NBC-era radio comedy Lum and Abner, aired November 11, 1941, starring Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle.
The Jot-Em-Down Store in Pine Ridge
Characters: Lum Edwards, Abner Peabody, Cedric, Miss Fredericks, Tom Blavins, Myra, Clarabel
Listen for: Abner's habit of reading old newspapers instead of shelving books, and the question of where Cedric is getting his books.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
