What happens

Lum and Abner, the storekeepers of Pine Ridge, discuss the mysterious box left with them for safekeeping. A stranger named John Devereaux, also called Malcolm Kilgore on the insurance papers, has left it, and Abner's fall has revealed a hidden compartment holding a sack of diamonds. The partners debate the stranger's alias and whether to turn the box over to the police. They talk of questioning him when he returns, and they seek the help of Squire Skimp, who reveals that a wealthy Kansas City family once owned a famous diamond collection. This is a Lum and Abner episode, first broadcast on September 1, 1941, with Chester Lauck, Norris Goff and Lurene Tuttle in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
