What happens
Luigi Vasco, a shopkeeper in a neighborhood store, falls behind on his rent to his landlord, Pasquale Pasquali, and is pressed to pay. Rather than face eviction, Luigi considers renting out the front of his antique shop to a hot dog vendor, which causes trouble with his partner, Louis, and with Rosa. Desperate for money, he then takes a job at an ice cream parlor, where he struggles to learn the soda fountain's lingo. The series is Life with Luigi, first broadcast on June 12, 1951, starring J. Carroll Naish as Luigi, with Alan Reed as Pasquale. The episode was written by Cy Howard.
A small neighborhood store in an American city, with Luigi's antique shop, an adjacent hot dog stand, a classroom, and an ice cream parlor.
Characters: Luigi Vasco, Pasquale, Rosa, Louis, Charlie, Louis, Mr. Bosco, Miss Spellinger
Listen for: Luigi's accented speech and his exchanges with Pasquale about the rent, along with the soda fountain jargon he is taught at the ice cream parlor.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
