What happens
Luigi Vasco, a recent Italian immigrant in Chicago, prepares to attend a parent-teacher association meeting at his young employee Jimmy O'Connor's school. Luigi writes to his mother in Italy about his life, describing his night school, his affection for his teacher Miss Spalding, and his growing interest in civic activity. Eager to make a good impression, he buys a suit and sets out to make a speech. The series Life with Luigi was a comedy created by Sigh Howard and starring Jay Carroll Knight, first broadcast on November 16, 1948.
Chicago, 1948: Luigi's shop, a neighborhood spaghetti restaurant, a post office, a clothing store, and the school PTA meeting.
Characters: Luigi Vasco, Jimmy O'Connor, Miss Spalding, Pasquale, Rosa, Mrs. Pringle, Dr. Cartwright, Mrs. Wilson
Listen for: Luigi's accented speech and his letters to his mother, and the arrival at the PTA meeting of Luigi with a pot of spaghetti.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
