What happens

Luigi Vasco, a Chicago antique dealer and recent immigrant from Italy, is persuaded by a letter to join the Jackson Hospital Plan, a health insurance offer costing two cents a day. Shortly after signing up, Luigi is struck by a car while crossing the street and finds himself hospitalized. His friend Pasquale worries about the costs and about Rosa, who has long hoped to marry Luigi. The series Life with Luigi premiered in 1948, and its lead actors are J. Carol Nash as Luigi and Alan Reed as Pasquale.

Characters: Luigi Vasco, Pasquale, Jimmy O'Connor, Rosa, Mr. McCready, Mr. Sykes

Listen for: Luigi's letters to his mother in Italy, which frame the story, and his exchanges with Pasquale and the lawyer Mr. Sykes after the accident

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
