What happens

Luigi Basco, a newly arrived Italian immigrant attending night school, is chosen as the Future American of 1953 and must give a speech at an I Am An American Day celebration in the park. Luigi works through two sleepless nights on his speech, while his friend Pasquale teases him and his sweetheart Rosa's father worries about their courtship. Luigi's classmates are seated on the speaker's stand as the day approaches, and the announced guest, Judge Reeves, has not yet arrived. The episode is part of the Life with Luigi comedy series, first broadcast on 1950-05-16, and its cast includes J. Carrol Naish as Luigi and Alan Reed as Pasquale.

A night school class and a park on a Sunday celebration of I Am An American Day, with Luigi's home and the neighborhood in between.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
